Before purchasing a Gypsy, whether from us or elsewhere, please do your research on the care and upkeep of the Gypsy breed.
Be sure to research CPL, PSSM, feather mites, as well as feather and mane care.
Some Gypsies do require a special diet, and that would be something to research before purchasing as well.
Gypsies are a higher maintenance breed than others. We have also noticed many purchasing Gypsies and not realizing what to look for as far as CPL, which can lead to a fatal outcome.
Many have their own opinions on PSSM, but it is still always good to do some research to generate your own opinion and make an informed decision as to whether you’d purchase a horse with it.
Here at Gypsy Rebel Ranch, we will never breed anything that we feel is subpar. We will not breed a horse that has CPL, PSSM, FIS, a bad temperament, poor confirmation, or just overall is not, what we feel, “the total package”.
We have also included a breed standard photo for proper confirmation.
We like to use mineral oils as well as manely long products for our Gypsies. We keep their manes braided up in mane bags and keep their tails braided up all winter long.
We have found that electrical tape works best for their braids in our opinion.
We also keep them on a Spring and Fall routine for mite treatments with Ivermectin pour on.
Our Gypsies can come and go from the barn as they please, and do end up with some burnt feather during the hot summer months, but overall these are the things that work best for us.
