Breeding quality with passion and responsibility
There will be some who will not like what we have to say here, nor what we believe in. If you do not agree, that’s ok. There are plenty of other breeders out there with different thoughts and opinions to work with!
At Gypsy Rebel Ranch it is our goal to first and foremost, better the breed! You will not find us trying to breed anything other than the heavy, hairy, TRADITIONAL Gypsy. We have done so much research on the breed, bloodlines, genetics, confirmation… and we will only breed a mare to a stallion that we feel will complement each other in a way to produce the traditional Gypsy type. This means if we ever decide to breed any of our stallions to outside mares, we will absolutely NOT be breeding crossbreds. Absolutely NO exceptions! Sorry, but no. This does not better our breed! Mares will need to be registered and approved as a good fit for our stallions, and future plans for the foal will also be taken into consideration.
Case and point…
My husband and I have been raised around and have owned horses all our lives… we have owned different breeds and did some rescue work out of our own pockets for a few years… We have worked beside and with a few rescues and we have purchased slaughter bound horses from some of the biggest kill buyers in our area. (No, we did not purchase from the “bail” sites.. Yes, they were true slaughter bound horses.. No, I will not argue over the way things go in the industry.)
To get to my point…
There will eventually come a time when this breed too, will start to end up in the kill pens and on the slaughter trucks. We feel that the majority of those will be the ones that were mass produced by breeders who only care about the money. They are already being ran through the auction barns, and being flipped by dealers. Eventually they will start to fall through the cracks when unresponsible breeders are breeding terrible confirmation and genetic disorders (whether unknowingly because they didn’t do the research or just because they flat out didn’t care); Or because breeders don’t do their due diligence to verify that the buyer is the right fit, or a good home for the horse; Or because the breeders don’t care enough to stand behind their stock and take them back if something causes the buyer to have to sell down the road; Or because someone took the opportunity to breed to a cheap Gypsy stallion with hopes to make a lot of money and no real idea as to what they were getting into.
Whatever the case may be… the time will come… and we want to raise the bar- to be held to a much higher standard as a breeder!
We will require contracts to be signed when purchasing a Gypsy from us. Buyers must be approved as a great fit and good home. We will not sell to someone who is knowingly going to resell.
Our stock will always be welcomed back at any point that a buyer is no longer able to keep said horse, for any reasons! In fact, the ‘first right of refusal’ is a stipulation in our contracts.
Responsible Breeders- Breeding High Quality Horses with Passion!
If you’ve followed along all this way, Thanks!
And if for any reason you don’t like our opinions.. well, they are just that- opinions. Feel free to reach out to any other breeder who you feel is a better fit!
Have a great Day!!
